Here in Northwest Arkansas, whether you are a beginner or an expert, you will be able to catch a fish from the bank or a boat. The shallows are alive with all species of fish. Last weekend we camped around Rocky Branch and fished around Big Clifty towards the dam on Beaver. We went so far north to find just stained water, not muddy like it is everywhere else. Our top bait was the spinner-bait, chartreuse and white with gold and silver blades. I like willow-leaf blades. We also caught a few on Texas rigged worms in junebug color. Use extreme caution due to very high water with lots of debris floating around the lake. If you find a little more normal water in a smaller lake or river here in Northwest Arkansas, weightless baits are a good choice right now, such as watermelon senko type baits and/or flukes. Don’t forget minnows for crappie are fair, as perch and crappie are spawning right now. Remember May is the time when you can fish your strengths. So get out and take a kid fishing!
