Extent of Theft Unknown, Could be as much as $300,000
GREENLAND- A Greenland woman faces felony theft of property charges after Springdale police said she confessed to stealing a minimum of $50,000 from her employer over a fifteen year period.
Springdale Police arrested Martha Hill, 17 S. Main Street, on May 2 for theft of property following an investigation stemming from January of this year. In a preliminary report, Springdale Police stated Beaver Lake Concrete discovered and reported that Hill, an employee, had taken cash from the company.
Fred Vernor, General Manager for Beaver Lake Concrete in Springdale said that Hill had served as the company’s office manager. He said the company reported the theft on Jan. 21 after an internal audit.
The Springdale Police report stated that Hill confessed to taking approximately $10,000, but later confessed to stealing a minimum of $50,000 after Beaver Lake Concrete provided documentation showing that $100,000 had been taken. The report stated that the company estimates that as much as $300,000 may have been stolen during Hill’s employment.
Vernor said the theft was discovered when Hill couldn’t produce copies of customer receipts. He said the company has hired an auditor and after four months, the extent of the loss still has not been finalized.
Hill’s arraignment will be held on June 1.
