First Light Schooling Action Helps Haul ‘Em In

September 12, 2011 by wcobserver

Even with this heat the fishing here in Northwest Arkansas has been pretty good, not much has changed since my last report. I have had days from 20-30 fish on my first half day trips. In most small lakes around here bass are schooling on shad.

Last weekend in the first place we visited a big school of bass that running shad to the top, this school of bass stayed on the top for at least an hour. It was a blast, we put 19 in the boat in that one spot. Every bass we caught in that school came on a chug bug or a spook. Most of these bass were 2-3 pounds and full of shad, no big ones but a load of action.

After the top-water action slows, I have found fish holding on deep cover in 25 feet of water catching them on watermelon centipedes. Best places to find these fish have been points and ridges. Your electronics will be a big key on how successful your day on the water will be. Watch for balls of bait and bass stacked up on the screen. Wacky rigs have also paid off big in these schools.

The weather has been hot, but don’t let that keep you off the water because you can get some awesome schooling action this time of year, usually at first light. If you would like to book a trip call 479-871-9625! Thanks for reading my report. God Bless! Proverbs 3:5, 6.
