Winslow Run Funds Distributed

Winslow Half Marathon and 5k Run makes about $5,000 Benefiting Local Non Profits in Winslow

WINSLOW – Numerous community organizations received an early Christmas gift this year, thanks to the revenue generated by the successful  third annualWinslow Half-Marathon and 5K Race.

The Board of Directors of the Winslow Community Development Council met on November 12th to review their final report on revenue and expenses from the September event. The race cost roughly $8,000 to stage while realizing over $12,000  from registration fees and sponsorships, according to race Director Daniel Dean and WCDC Treasurer Mary Anderson, who presented the board with a final accounting of race expenditures and revenue.

After some discussion, and input from race volunteers, the board unanimously decided how to distribute the $5,000 of net income. Winslow Community Meals received the largest share at $2,700.00, while the Winslow Emergency Relief Fund was given $500.00 and Ozark Folkways $1,000.00.The Boston Mountain Fire Department and  Friends of the  Winslow Library  Museum each received checks for $250.00 The Winslow Museum recieved $200.00 and the Winslow 4H Club was given $100.An itemized listing of race expenditures and revenue can be found at the race’s website

The run was held in conjunction with the 31st Annual Winfest  Community Music Festival and a Community Expo in Peak’s Park featuring local artisans and community organizations  . More than 200 runners participated in this year’s race with numerous area businesses  sponsoring the event.

Plans are already underway  for the fourth annual event to be held in September of 2014 under the direction of 2014 Race Director Sara Rose Myers.
