WF RRC Board Report

July 31, 2014 by Steve Winkler

We need volunteers at the RRC!  Come work with us.  I have openings every Saturday morning from now until forever.  Please consider volunteering this Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00.  Just send me an email to let me know if you can make it.  If you have questions about volunteering give me a call at 200-6072 or stop by and chat with us when we are open.  Right now I don’t have anyone signed up for this Saturday morning!

The RRC Advisory Board welcomed two new members.  Jimmie Thomas and Lori Marsh have joined our group and we are a dedicated and energetic Board.  Below are the minutes from our last meeting if you are interested in seeing what we are up to. ~ Patty

West Fork Renewable Resource Center Advisory Board
Meeting Notes
Tuesday, July 29, 2014
West Fork Public Library

Call to order: Patty called the meeting to order at 1:05 pm.

Roll Call:
Present—Patty Baker, President; Sophie Stephenson, secretary; Carolyn Griffith, member; Lori Marsh, member; Jimmie Thomas, member; Charles Rosetti, West Fork Mayor; Megan Webb, Parks Director

Meeting Minutes
Minutes from the January 2014 meeting were approved.

Old Business:

  1. Discussion of dog waste stations
Megan with Parks Dept is working on installing dog waste stations in the parks.

  1. Discussion of change in paid RRC position and new duties and responsibilities.
Patty has accepted the paid position with the RRC.
Aluminum cans and plastic bags will be picked up by a city employee and taken to be sold.  Kristie, with the City, will track the amount collected, or she will send to Sophie for tracking.
A city employee will also pick up recyclables from the library, city hall, and the community center.  These materials will be taken to the RRC and sorted Saturday morning.
City employees will have a key to the gate and Paul’s Place building.
Megan will make sure recyclables from Carter Park get to the RRC and will use inmates to help sort.

  1. Money donated in memory of Paul
Almost $500 has been donated in memory of Paul.
Patty suggested a small statue of a child reading, and Mayor Rosetti suggested a small plaque be attached to it saying in memory of Paul.  This will need to be inside the fence possibly in the garden area of the turnaround.
Everyone can research and we will vote via email.

  1. New sign at RRC
The metal storage building will have a sign saying “Paul’s Place.”  City employees will hang it.

New Business:

  1. West Fest – Sept 13th 9 am -? and Sunday Sept 14th 9-3
Megan said more booths are needed in the kids’ area for West Fest.  Sophie is going to check with the educators in her office for availability.  One idea is the creation of a community mural with bottle caps, maybe a turtle that could go to the RRC after completion.

  1. West Fork is interested in having free e-waste trailer, maybe in September to coincide with West Fest.  Sophie will check on this and contact Robyn Reed.

Next Meeting Date: September 23rd

Meeting Adjourned: Patty adjourned the meeting at 1:52 pm.
