-Special to the Observer from Patty Baker- Thank you to all of you who donated items, volunteered your precious time, or came to our sale and shopped with such generosity.  We made $2,400.00!  Incredible!   We had some very generous donations both of items and checks and are so thrilled to have this nice chunk of money to put towards Library Hall. Many of you said that because of the weather you weren’t able to get your items to us for our sale so we are going to have another one in April.  We are going to combine it with a bedding plant sale that the Master Gardener’s are planning.  So, as you are doing your spring cleaning, set aside those wonderful things that you need a new home for and we will sell them to benefit the Library Hall.

Special to the Observer from from Patty Baker- When we started the Recycling Center, eight or so years ago, we started with an empty lot provided by the City of West Fork. I think we got a picnic table from somewhere and, soon after that, a portable toilet. That first winter we warmed our hands over an open fire and didn’t even have a sorting table or wooden steps to reach the bins. Our trailers, Henry’s Hut, The Visiting Porch, the shop building that houses our book sale and oil recycling barrel, and even the fence were just a dream.

-By Steve Winkler- Four of the West Fork city council members, Mike Nelson, Anita Lowry, Ed Stout and Julie Shafer, voted at the January meeting to appoint former aldermen and Mayor Jan Throgmorton to the vacant Ward 4 seat. There were no other aldermen present. The other option was to appoint Valton Elams, a long time citizen active in community life but without previous political experience. The appointment was to complete the term of the Ward 4, Position 2 seat which was vacated when Charlie Rossetti was voted by the council to become Interim Mayor until a special election can be held to select someone to complete the term of Mayor Frances Hime who resigned in October, 2013.
