GREENLAND – Like scores of other high school football players across the country, Greenland offensive lineman Jeremy Collins participated in National Signing Day on Feb. 1. The senior signed a letter of intent to play for Arkansas Tech, upon finishing his last year of high school. During a ceremony at the Greenland High School cafeteria, Collins sat with his parents John and Myra Collins, as his fellow teammates and peers cheered him on. Despite Collins’ success on the field, Coach Lee Larkan praised the athelete’s academic abilities above grid- iron brawn. “It’s a lot of playing football, a lot of years of poking away. But the most important thing is that he is eligible to play football, academically,” Coach Larkan said. “The apathetic stuff does not matter if you don’t have the academics.” Coach Larkan wished the 6’5’’ 245-pound lineman luck, despite Tech’s colors of “green and gold” he said jokingly. “It is halfway pretty.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, Collins him- self was all smiles during the ceremony. “It feels good,” he said. “It’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders.” The difficulty in the months since football season ended has been to stay focused, he said, citing the chronic issue that …Read More...
